These sessions are designed to be interactive, and engage participants in collaborative problem solving associated with the topic. Ideally presenter(s) will introduce content that is informed by research on teaching and learning or that offers a model innovative practice and includes evidence from practice.
A Professional Development Model for Teachers of ESOL and Workforce Development
Participants will have an opportunity to examine a Professional Development model for ESOL conducted through a Workforce Agency. The workshop includes a step-by-step analysis of how the two entities created, planned, and executed this blended professional development consisting of two face-to-face modules with online participation in between. Participants will review planning steps including teacher needs assessments, logistics, and flexibility needed to be successful. Finally, we will create models useful for participants for local professional development.

Developing a Culture for Transitions/Orientation
This training will provide practitioners an opportunity to identify the benefits of goal setting and create a culture for student transition within adult education through post-secondary. Student Recruitment, Retention, and Role Modeling: An OAASIS in Delaware
In response to the need for student outreach, leadership, and networking, Delaware took the lead in 1991 to create a statewide student organization. It was presented to the leadership of DAACE, the adult education professional organization, DCL (The Delaware Coalition for Literacy), and ICAL (the Interagency Council for Adult Literacy). It was designed to serve the students and graduates of the Delaware adult education programs. This session will address the history, goals and objectives, organization and activities of OAASIS. It will also provide an example of a leadership activity (a successful statewide student survey) which was conducted last fiscal year.

Using the Language Experience Approach in Adult ESL Classrooms
Current research shows the effectiveness of using authentic materials and activities to teach literacy in adult ESL classrooms. After presenting key findings of research, the presenter will introduce the Language Experience Approach (LEA), highlighting its value for adult ESL learners. LEA strategies will be demonstrated, with a focus on the creation and use of learner-dictated stories to teach reading. These stories are based on learners' own experiences and needs in real life.

Student Recruitment, Retention, and Role Modeling: An OAASIS in Delaware
In response to the need for student outreach, leadership, and networking, Delaware took the lead in 1991 to create a statewide student organization. It was presented to the leadership of DAACE, the adult education professional organization, DCL (The Delaware Coalition for Literacy), and ICAL (the Interagency Council for Adult Literacy). It was designed to serve the students and graduates of the Delaware adult education programs. This session will address the history, goals and objectives, organization and activities of OAASIS. It will also provide an example of a leadership activity (a successful statewide student survey) which was conducted last fiscal year.

Using the Language Experience Approach in Adult ESL Classrooms
Current research shows the effectiveness of using authentic materials and activities to teach literacy in adult ESL classrooms. After presenting key findings of research, the presenter will introduce the Language Experience Approach (LEA), highlighting its value for adult ESL learners. LEA strategies will be demonstrated, with a focus on the creation and use of learner-dictated stories to teach reading. These stories are based on learners' own experiences and needs in real life.
