Almost There: Encouraging Unsuccessful GED Test-Takers to Attend Local Programs
This presentation will describe the activities of the Georgia Harvest Project, an innovative, statewide effort to match promising adult learners with the programs who can help them meet their educational goals. This interactive marketing project, which involves direct mailing, web information, web surveys, and responsive programming is being piloted with 6,200 adults who recently passed some, but not all, GED Tests. Key activities will be described, and suggestions for improvements will be discussed.

Diversity, Youth, Security, and Results—Challenges for 21st Century Classroom
As the country become more diverse and more urban, additional challenges face the GED instructor as he or she attempts to reach young adults in their neighborhoods, as they seeks to make changes in their lives. Omega School for the past thirty seven years has provided one to one GED preparation, using private offices, a quiet environment, paid instructors, on-site babysitting, GED test fee support, free bus tokens and is located in a secured facility by a major transportation hub. These supports and interventions have eliminated the major obstacles identified by GED students as impediments for their success. The presentation will detail how these supports lead to 95% success on the GED exams.

Interactive Strategies for Passing the GED Mathematics Test
Many students struggle with passing the GED Mathematics Test. Let’s look at some sample test questions and investigate why GED questions are challenging for our students. We will work with interactive classroom, print, and online materials based on students’ diverse learning styles. We also will delve into 2010 research on the most missed questions on the GED Mathematics Test and approaches to promoting student success with those questions. Transition to Adulthood: Dropping In for a Better Future
Teenage dropouts often present a challenge to Adult Education programs. They lack the maturity and self-discipline to succeed in the traditional Adult Education classroom. This presentation will present strategies that will help enable these young adults to make the difficult transition to adulthood while simultaneously preparing them for the GED. Emphasis will be placed on combining guidance, problem solving, goal setting and employment readiness skills with GED instructional strategies appropriate for this age group.
