Creating Learning Communities
Learning Centers served a purpose for building academic skills. But, when the emphasis is beyond academics, creating Learning Communities are essential. The teacher skills needed are very different, don’t come naturally, and MUST be taught, trained, modeled, and supervised. This session will demonstrate new skills that work to make the shift.

The presenter will demonstrate what each category of assessment: diagnostic, formative and summative—is best suited for, and lead participants in creating an assessment plan for their classroom or program using resources from the LINCS Program Management Resource Collection.

LINCS Online Resources for Transitions in Adult Education
The Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) is a national dissemination and professional development system, providing information on literacy research, practice, and resources. This session will provide an overview of the new LINCS website and online Resource Collections. The latest resources covering a variety of transitions topics will be highlighted in the areas of program management, workforce competitiveness, and basic skills. Presenters will provide a demonstration of how to access and navigate the new site and discuss how the resources may be used in participants work settings.

Literacy as a Social Enterprise Business: Maximize Mission Using a Business Mindset
In the face of dwindling government funding, shrinking grants, and declining donations, learn how a shift in organizational mindset and vision to a business-minded culture of Social Enterprise can lead to increased revenues AND improved community impact. The Tutorial Center, Inc., a CBO in southern Vermont, has embraced social enterprise for our literacy mission. This session will present a case study of The Tutorial Center, Inc. as a successful literacy social enterprise and explore whether social enterprise is right for your organization.

Reducing Assessment Administration Time with TABE Online
Assessment administration can be a labor intensive proposition. This session will demonstrate the efficiencies of TABE Online, offering adult educators flexible options for delivering, scoring and reporting assessments. By providing speedier administration of TABE, educators can spend more time using the assessment data to develop learning paths and increase learner gains. Each attendee will receive a free 60 day trial.
