Immigration and ESL: A Policy Update
Now that a new administration and a new Congress are in place in Washington, what is happening with immigration reform and integration? What are the proposals impacting adult ESL education? Does immigration reform have a realistic chance of passing in the 112th Congress? This session will look at the latest developments in Washington impacting adult English language learners and adult ESL educators.

Philanthropy + Governor = Regional Plan
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving invested $1.5 million dollars over 3 years via five grants to address adult literacy in the Hartford area. The grantees collaborative work led to the outline of a regional plan. Simultaneously, Connecticut’s Governor signed an executive order directing each WIB to create a regional plan for adult literacy.
