Sponsorship Levels

  • We are requesting support for the national conference on adult education to be held in San Francisco, April 17-21, 2011.  The theme of the conference is Literacy to Work-Adult Education for a Global Economy and it is expected that 1,200 to 1,400 educators from all 50 states will be attending.  It is organized by the California Council for Adult Education (CCAE), and the Commission on Adult Education (COABE), a national professional development organization.

Our organizations are working to educate adults in and for our workforce.  According to the Public Policy Institute of California, "There will be twice as many persons with less than a high school diploma than there will be jobs available for those with less than a high school diploma by 2020."  In a recent report from the National Assessment of Adult Literacy it is noted "...a staggering 30 million American adults scored at 'below-basic'-meaning they could perform no more than the most rudimentary literacy tasks.  Another 63 million adults could perform only simple, basic everyday literacy activities."  These statistics highlight the problem small companies and large corporations alike face daily with an illiterate workforce pool to hire from.  Please help us to tackle this problem.

Our organizations, CCAE, and COABE are coming together at this conference to explore better ways to serve adults in California and across the country with basic literacy, vocational English as a second language, high school diploma, General Education Development (GED) and entry-level career and technical education skills.
